Pat Howard Harkness Jewelry
Pat Howard Harkness was raised in Hawaii and, after graduating from Michigan State University with a BA degree in Interior Design, Pat wanted to be back near the ocean again with enough open spaces to ride horses. San Luis Obispo was an obvious choice and she moved here in 1979.
In 1981, Pat started Howard and Judd Interior Design with Kriste Judd, which grew into a very successful design business. Pat married Mike Harkness in 1984, became a mom to a son in 1988 and then graduated from Cal Poly's graduate program with a degree in Architecture in 1995, all while working as a designer. Pat retired from her design business about 12 years ago.
Having retired, I started painting and traveling with my husband. On my fifth visit to the Tahitians Islands to visit my brother who is a Tahitian Black Pearl farmer, I struck up a business with him and his wife to market his certified Tahitian Black pearls in California. That idea inspired me into making handmade jewelry with his beautiful pearls directly from their family pearl farm.
